This is my site, Chris Gagné’s, and I run it from Nelson, New Zealand, so New Zealand’s Privacy Act 2020 applies. This page says what the site collects about you, who else handles it, and how to reach me about it.
What the site collects
Google Analytics. I use Google Analytics, through Google’s Site Kit plugin for WordPress, to see which pages get read and how people found them. It records the pages you view, your rough location (country and city), your device and browser, and the site that sent you, and it sets cookies so it can tell a return visit from a new one. I’ve also set it to count a few clicks: the booking links, the CV link, and starting the gap scan or the breathing timer. It doesn’t get your name or email address. Google’s privacy policy
Microsoft Clarity. Clarity records how visitors scroll and click, as anonymous session replays and heatmaps, so I can see whether a page works. It hides anything you type into a field and doesn’t get your name or email address. Microsoft’s privacy statement
Booking a call. My booking pages run on TidyCal. When you book, TidyCal collects your name, your email address, the time you pick and your answers to its questions, and sends them to me so I can hold the call. TidyCal’s privacy policy
Amazon links. Some links to books go to Amazon, and as an Amazon Associate I earn a commission when you buy through them. If you follow one, Amazon may set cookies to credit the sale. Amazon’s privacy notice
Server logs. My web host keeps standard logs of requests to the site, including IP addresses, to keep it running and secure.
The gap scan and the breathing timer run in your browser, and your answers stay there.
Where it goes
Google, Microsoft, TidyCal and Amazon are US companies and may store what they collect outside New Zealand. I use what the site collects to improve the site and to prepare for calls you book. I don’t sell it or use it to target ads.
Cookies
Google Analytics, Clarity and Amazon set cookies. You can block them in your browser settings or with Google’s opt-out add-on, and the site works the same without them.
Seeing or correcting your information
You can ask what personal information I hold about you and ask me to correct or delete it. Write to me at PO Box 428, Nelson 7040, New Zealand, and I’ll answer within 20 working days. If you’re unhappy with my answer, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.
